Founded in 2017 in Ness Ziona, Israel, IBI-Ag builds pest control out of antibodies, the same kind of biological machinery your immune system uses to fight off invaders, rather than synthetic chemicals. The pitch to farmers is simple: sprays precise enough to wipe out crop destroying insects while leaving pollinators, workers and the surrounding ecosystem untouched. The company brews its products using fermentation, a process that keeps costs down and makes large scale production realistic for commercial farms.
That vision has attracted serious backers. Corteva, Bayer's venture arm and Israel's Trendlines Group have all written checks, and the company recently closed a Series A round pushing its total funding past $10 million.
And there's a notable local wrinkle to the story. IBI-Ag is being positioned as the first company to establish a U.S. headquarters presence through Iron Nation Indiana, the $60 million plus initiative Governor Mike Braun launched this year to connect Israeli tech companies with Indiana's corporations, universities and research institutions. The partnership, anchored by a $15 million state investment alongside more than $30 million from Iron Nation, is meant to give Israeli startups a launchpad into the American market, and IBI-Ag's move makes it an early face of that experiment.
For a company barely 20 employees strong, it's a striking bet. The future of pest control looks less like a chemical drum and more like a lab grown antibody, and Indiana, of all places, could be where that future scales up for commercialization.
